Spring is the most popular period to visit Africa for first timers, it's known for its drier weather, abundance of wildlife congregating around water sources not to mention blooming beauty in South Africa.
Southern Africa
Spring is a beautiful season in Southern Africa whether you're interested in wild flowers or wildlife. The weather is particularly enjoyable with hot days and comfortable nights. Keep in mind November though in Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe is very hot and dry. Many people love this time of year on safari as water sources are limited thus wildlife congregate around what is available.
| South Africa | Expect clear warm days and nights and fantastic wildlife viewing in the Greater Kruger region, private reserve Sabi Sand and malaria free areas of the Eastern Cape and Madikwe Game Reserve. The highlight for many is the wildflowers that bloom, best seen on self drive safaris or even the Rovos Rail or Blue Train journeys. |
| Botswana | The end of high season (Sep - Oct) and into low season offers fantastic wildlife opportunities as the animals concentrate around the rivers and delta systems. Keep in mind days are hot and so wildlife is inactive all day, best movements seen early morning and late afternoon. Landscapes are dry and arid compared to the lush green of earlier seasons. The Delta is best combined with time in the Pans or Kalahari Desert. |
| Zambia / Zimbabwe | Victoria Falls is starting to dry up, so you won't witness the majestic thundering waters you see on documentaries, but the gorge is still impressive and worth a visit. Safari regions are teeming with wildlife who again are congregating around water sources. It's the best time to be on the Lower Zambezi with literally hundreds of elephants and other species migrating to the river. |
| Malawi | Lake Malawi region is most rewarding at this time of year because after the adventures and heat of a safari, you seek solitude in a remote and picture perfect setting. We highly recommend Lake Malawi and somewhere like Kaya Mawa as a 'beach' style finale to your safari. Direct flights from Mfuwe in Zambia mean it's a great bush and beach combination (Zambia and Malawi). |
| Namibia | Great months for Namibia as the days are warm and clear and nights remain really pleasant. Damaraland is a must and so is the Namib Desert. |
| Madagascar | Madagascar is best in April/May and October/November. Rainy season is over (Jan - Mar), the landscapes are lush and wildlife in abundance. Weather is comfortable, not too hot and not too cold unless you venture into the central highlands where it can get cold and windy. November is a birders paradise! |
East Africa
The ultimate time of year to witness the great migration and famous river crossings plus trek for gorillas!
| Tanzania | Both northern and southern Tanzania safari circuits are at their best now with wildlife in strong numbers and comfortable temperatures day and night. The migration herds cross the Mara into Kenya, so a combined safari is our most popular (Tanzania and Kenya). |
| Kenya | The Masai Mara is now in full swing with the great migration which means more tourists watching the incredibly heightened wildlife activity. Other regions are beautiful at this time of year with clear hot days and comfortable nights. Try to get off the beaten track and explore the Samburu region, Laikipia and Great Rift Valley lakes. |
| Uganda Rwanda | Rwanda and Uganda can be visited any time of the year. One of our favourite times to trek is Spring because the rains are not as intense, the mountains are stunning and the days are really comfortable and clear. |
