Rovos Rail
Promoted as the world's most luxurious train and known as The Pride Of Africa, this rail journey allows you to discover infinite variety, from desert landscapes, mountains, bushveld and grassland plains to the bustling urban heart of the subcontinent cities. The Pride of Africa carries its exclusive band of intrepid travellers through the heartlands of South Africa and Zimbabwe. An aspect that sets Rovos Rail apart is the superb collection of rebuilt and refurbished coaches that offer world-class comfort and style, the epitome of luxury is its handsome wood paneling and period Edwardian features. Five superbly reconditioned steam locomotives are the heart and soul of Rovos Rail. The superb cuisine served aboard is simple and elegant and mealtimes in the dining cars are a highlight of the journey. The trains are hauled by steam, diesel and electric locomotives at various stages of the journey and carry a maximum of 72 passengers in 36 superbly appointed air-conditioned suites complete with spacious double beds, writing surface, personal safe, bar fridge and ensuite bathrooms.
Service is friendly and discreet. Each train has one or two lounge cars. Permission was sought and granted by South African Railways to run the Observation Cars at the back of the trains, enabling enlargement of the windows and the construction of unique open-air balconies. These classic coaches are the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely drink or a cup of tea, get to know the friendly hostesses and fellow travellers, and read about the route and the many fascinating attractions. The lounge car and onboard gift shop is in the centre of the train.
There are scheduled departures from Pretoria to Cape Town, Victoria Falls, Durban and along the scenic Garden Route. Each one will excite and enthrall any adventure traveller.
The Blue Train
